Charles Ford Smith Cotil, also known as Carlos Francisco Ford Smith, was apparently born in County Cork, Ireland in the mid to late 1700s and emigrated to the US where he met Ana Maria Cecilia Leret y Huston from Baltimore, Maryland. They ended up in Cuba and married in Havana in February of 1809.
We are trying to find out more about him and his parents and ancestors. His father's name appeared to be John Smith de Gilardi (or Galardi or Sagardi), and his mother's appeared to be Rosa Maria Cotil (or Cotel). Both were also from County Cork and we are not sure if they stayed in Ireland or moved to Cuba with Charles and the other children to Cuba. Charles's son was called Carlos Felipe Pedro Smith y Leret, born in Havana, Cuba on May 26, 1810 and died in 1884.
