Thomas was the sixth of seven children born to William Davison, a farmer, and Mary Jane Ferguson from the townland of Drumrot in County Derry. Thomas was baptised at the First Presbyterian Church in Moneymore on 7 October 1852. He married Rebecca Reid from the townland of Knockadoo on 29 October 1874. Rebecca Reid had been baptised at the First Presbyterian Church at Moneymore on 2 May 1851. One month after their marriage in Moneymore, Thomas and Rebecca Davidson sailed from London (Gravesend) on 26 November 1874 as assisted immigrants to New Zealand on the ship India. Thomas' occupation was listed as ploughman.
Their son, William John Davidson, was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 3 January 1876. They were living in the suburb of Mt Eden and Thomas gave his occupation as farmer. Rebecca died on 16 October 1877 from a Psoas abscess. Thomas gave his occupation as gardener and they were living at Mt Roskel Road in Auckland.
Thomas married Johanna Anderson on 4 October, 1881. Johanna had been born in Umbulla in India where her father was in the British Army. They had two boys, Thomas (known as Tom) born 19 July 1882 and George, born 10 January 1884. Thomas died on 11 December 1884 from enteric fever. Johanna married William Robert Johnson in 1888.
