Dear Madame, Dear Sir,

Does this conundrum interest any of your volunteers? We have read that there are few burial records for Ireland. I have found death records (unc and obit) in this record set: Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915 for the years 1797 to 1807. Was there a reason why they were recorded in this county? I would love to hear your opinion or should I direct this to the heritage centerl? With thanks and very best wishes, Patricia Maack

  • Answer to both questions............ No.
There are Death lists in some other Counties.

This link you gave makes it easier to search as you search by name etc.

These are the same records, we have used these for years and you had to know the Parish name, the year of Baptism, year of Marriage and if you were Lucky to find a Parish with listings of death you would need to know the year of the Death.
Look for Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI.   (this site has been updated and today it won't let me enter the Link, sorry)
Before these came on line we would spend hours in the Library in Dublin.

  • Dear Margot,

Many many thanks for your reply of July which I received today  Oct. 12th. Not a complaint, just to let you know.

"There are death lists in other counties": I basically just wondered if you knew why there are these few death records, when everyone says there are no Irish burial/death records. I suppose it seems a trivial question, but there we are.

I much appreciate all the work the volunteers do and have so much enjoyed my time in Abbeyleix where my ancestors hail from.

    Patricia
