Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in UK
Went with Parents Martin Shaughnessy and Bridget Nohilly to Chesterfield Derbyshire in the late 19th Century. After a short while Martin died (no record of this that I can find) Bridget then a widow, married Bryan Mullins of Kilkenny, in Chesterfield and had several more children. Bryan died in 1902 and Bridget seems to have been in the workhouse. I can’t find any records of her death. When they came to England, they seem to have been known as Sharkey for some inexplicable reason. My grandfather Michael Shaughnessy, remained as Sharkey until he left the army in 1902 when he reverted to Shaughnessy.
