Nathaniel was apparently born in N. Ireland in 1785, and married Elizabeth Williams (b. 1786). Together they had 3 boys and a girl before migrating to Canada about 1830 (James, Francis, Samuel & Sarah). Nathaniel also had a brother Francis and another brother who I believe was Samuel or William. Nathaniels' birth, although not confirmed was in Monaghan Co,and Elizabeth was born likely in Ballymena. Unfortunately this is the extent of my knowledge of this generation, and nothing about the previous generation. Speculation, because of their Protestant background, and their unusual surname for an Irishman, has the Barber's coming from France, in previous years, as part of the flow of Heugenots. The Barber name has also originally been considered to be Barbier, changed and Anglasized when arriving in the UK. I have been researching this line for over 30 years and have a good handle on their life in Canada, however their History in Ireland and beyond has eluded me to the point of frustration. Needless to say may of those 30 years have been sporatic research. I would love to find the Barbers in Ireland (anywhere) and hopefully plan a trip to visit our motherland.
