Hello all,
Am hoping to find some information about my ancestors the Horans of Offaly.
I believe they came from Clonony (More/Beg) or the surrounding area, and emigrated to the UK before settling in Sheffield in the 1860s.
Father Martin, b. around 1807. Mother Eliza/Elizabeth (maiden name unknown).
Children Michael, Catherine, John, Annie, Eliza, Mary, all born between 1838-1854 ish.
Many references to King’s County in censuses, and one or two to Clonony. But nothing more certain.
Any help gladly received!
may thanks

I referred your message to a local volunteer for Gallen civil parish.

Hello
Baptism records in the Parish of Gallen and Rynagh start in 1811and some marriage records before that. Do you have any idea when Martin and Eliza got married or the date of birth of the first child. Maybe that way we could find a marriage record.
National Library of Ireland website - registers.nli.ie/parishes/0149
that should take you to the records pages.
Also have you done your DNA that would help also narrow down the area your Horans came from.
Horan is a very common name in County Offaly.

Hello Geraldine,
My apologies for the late reply. I only just spotted the message.
Regarding the Horans I am trying to trace, I have found no information on a marriage date or a DOB of their first child. I think their son Michael may have been oldest, but that's only of the children that I have been able to trace in Sheffield - and he seems to have been born somewhere between 1836 and 1842.
I have done my DNA through myheritage but that didn't give me much. Am hoping to try another service before long.
Kind regards,
J
