He had eleven children with Mary Keenan between 1848 and 1874. It appears that as a child sadly died they would name a subsequent child after that one, so we have 2 James, 2 Catherines and 2 Edwards. There was a Mary born 1860 who does not appear on the Glasgow 1861 Census.
John & Mary Appear on the 1861 Scotland Census living at 335 Gallowgate with Mary's Mother Catherine Keenon aged 50. This shows their two Sons Owen (my GG Grandad) born Saintfield County Down (I have the evidence) and youngest at that time John. However their daughter Mary was bapt 25 Nov 1860 in Ballymore Co Armagh so they came over between her birth and the Census of 1861.
Census 1861 says born Ireland. Their 1st Child Catherine McAteer was born on 10 September 1848 in Monaghan, Monaghan.
On Johns death cert it is witnessed by his Brother James. I can not find any trace of Johns Birth otr marriage to Mary Keenan. I can not find any info on his brother James.
I know from his death cert that Johns Father was Owen and his Mother was Catherine Gardiner - nothing else so far.
