Author and researcher, Carol Bennett McCuaig, published "Founding Families of Bromley Township" in 1996, which discusses founding families of Bromley, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. According to her findings there were several O'Shaughnessy families whom originated in County Clare, Ireland yet not all came to Bromley at the same time. Simon O'Shaughnessy, my Great Great Grandfather, is reported to have been born in Kilmurry, County Clare and according to the Ontario, Canada Census and Land Records, his family appear to have settled in both the townships of Wilberforce and Bromley, Renfrew Ontario, Canada sometime in 1864. Simon's son, John O'Shaugnessy (1850-1914) is my Great GrandFather and was born in Ireland and his son, John Murray O'Shaugnessy (1899-1971) is my Grandfather and was born in Douglas, Renfrew Ontario.
John O'Shaughnessy (1850-1914) married both Catherine Conway and Mary Jane Shields in Bromley, Ontario, Canada. Mary Jane Shields is John Murray O'Shaughnessy's mother and my Great Grandmother.
Other O'Shaughnessy families whom settled in Bromley, Ontario, Canada and came from County Clare include:
1)Michael O'Shaughnessy/Shaughnessy born in 1812 and married Julia Russell also born in Ireland in about 1805. They appear to have arrived in Canada around 1840 with their three daughters Mary, Elizabeth and Bridget whom married Michael Mahoney.
2)Thomas O'Shaughnessy/Shaughnessy (1803-1897) born in Kilrush, County Clare and his wife Hanora Madigan appear to have arrived in Ontario sometime between 1841 and 1844 and moved to Bromley in the 1850s according to the 1851 Wilberforce, Renfrew, Ontario Census.
3) William O'Shaughnessy/Shaughnessy born in Ireland abt 1792 appear in the 1851 Bromley, Ontario census with his wife Mary.
Because I cannot find any information about Simon O'Shaughnessy and his parents in County Clare nor any information about their immigration, travel, and port location of arrival to Canada, I don't know how Simon might be related to other O'Shaughnessy families who settled in Bromley Ontario Canada.
