James Power was born in about 1811 to parents Antonium Power and Eleanor Cotton.  The family lived in the townland of Runnaruag, County of Roscommon.  Although I could find no record of James Power’s baptism record, most of his siblings were baptised in the Catholic Church, Diocese of Elphin, County Roscommon.

James Power married Ellen Ferris on 22 Mar 1838 • St George, Bloomsbury, Camden, Middlesex, England.  They had three children - John Power, Catherine Sabina Power and Michael Eugene Power - all born in England.

James and Ellen migrated to Australia from London on the ship Una, arriving in New South Wales on the 22 Nov 1849.
