A native of Craughwell, County Galway, Ireland, but most likely born in Lackagh, Michael Edward Finn was born on September 29, 1856. He was the older of two children born to Patrick and Mary Jane Hanly. Michael’s sister, Winnifred, was born just 12 days after Patrick died in September 1858. Their mother married Michael Finnegan in 1860, moved to Craughwell and had another daughter (Mary Jane, 1860), and two sons (Peter, 1862 and Frances 1865). Michael immigrate to New York City in July of 1871 at the age of 14. He immigrated by himself on the ship, City of Brooklyn, but didn't stay long in NYC and found his way to San Francisco on the west coast of America. He lived an illustrious and significant life as a professional baseball player, team owner, successful business owner, dabbled in politics and he and his wife, Mary Ann Dullea (married in 1881 in San Francisco) had 13 children (or whom 9 survived.)
