Stayed in Ireland

Edmond, also known as Edward, Burke was born County Kilkenny circa 1830s, possibly late 1820's.

On 16 May 1859, he married Catherine Burke, in the Parish District of Inistioge with his and Catherine's address listed as Ballyvool. Edmond and Catherine had eight children between 1859 and 1876. The children were Michael, born 3 August 1859, my great-grandmother, Johanna, born 1 April 1861, Bridget, born 13 February 1866, Patrick, born 17 March 1868, Catherine, born 26 April 1869, Thomas, born 25 May 1872, Mary, birth record not found but reputed to be a twin of Thomas, and last Margaret, born 21 February 1876 and died about 2 years later. All of the children were baptized in the Parish of Rosbercon/Tullagher, with the townland listed as Garrandarragh. It appears that this is where Edmond and Catherine continued to live.

Catherine died in Garrandarragh on 23 June 1906 and Edmond was still living in Garrandarragh as of the 1911 Census.

Of the eight children, only one remained in Ireland, that was their daughter, Catherine. She married Patrick O'Leary on 19 September 1895 in the Parish District Rosbercon/Tullagher. They lived and raised a family in Pleberstown although, at the time of their marriage, Patrick's address was Coolraney.

All of Catherine's siblings that survived childhood emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, United States between 1883 and 1895.
