Frances or Mary Frances known as Fannie Malone

I would like to add information on my other side of the family. I received some help for the Lyons from Cork and am grateful.

Information from my paternal side of the family noted that Frances Malone or "Fannie" or Mary Frances was born around 1868 in County Longford, Ireland. She immigrated to New York, where she married Edward Duffy 28 Feb 1892 In NY and died in New York April 11, 1925 as Frances Duffy. Her mother was Bridget Mahon and father was Hugh Malone i.e. noted on her death certificate here in US. She had two sisters, Ellen and Annie. Ellen Malone came to NY married Hugh Kelly and died  on Jan 14, 1892 in New York. Annie Malone was born around 1866 and married James Miley (I believe) in Longford, Ireland. She died in Longford, Ireland.  All of these names are so common that it has been difficult to pinpoint the eact parish.

  • Hello Denis

I saw your query as I am a volunteer in Co Offaly and your post had Offaly linked to Longford.  Is there any reason for this link I wonder?    Anyway I had a look at your information and could find nothing at all for the of Ellen, Mary Frances or Annie at all in the 1860's.   Could find any record of marriage Annie to James Miley.  Found 2 Anne's married to a James Miley in Longford but neither had the surname Malone.  Is there any possibility that the 2 ladies who went to the US changed their surnames?   Have you the ship records from when they travelled?  The source for Fanny's death you attached brings you to an application form for a record at NYC but has no details on it.  It is very unusual there there is no record of any of the 3 girls at allwith those names or dates.  Sorry I cannot be of assistance.  If you have any further information it might assist in tracing your ancestors.

  • Hi Margaret,

Thank you so much for your comments. It is appreciated.  Pat, another volunteer in Longford suggested I ask for the marriage certificate of Ann Malone and James Miley.

I was able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate of James Miley and Ann Malone wiht Hugh Malone, a shoemaker, (deceased) as her father from Ireland.  This information on Hugh Malone was known to me.  I was told by a now deceased cousin that her mother's name was Bridget Mahon. The Miley marriage document  noted it was at Roman Catholic, Chapec, Longford, in County Longford. It noted Ann Malone was a spinster. Her sister Ellen moved to the states married a Kelly and died in NYC, NY. Annie Miley apparently never left Longford where the family was from originally.  Fannie married an Edward Duffy (born in NYC, NY) whose family was possibly from Offaly. The Duffy's then moved to County Longford and later New York City, NY. Fannie married Edward Duffy here in NYC, NY.

I was hoping to identify Hugh Malone and Bridget Mahon's parents or something of their history in Ireland.

    Thank you again.
