Back to ListJohn Fitzgibbon (born ca 1833, County Cork) and Elizabeth "Eliza" Desmond (born ca 1841) married 7 Sep 1861 in Castlemartyr, Diocese of Cloyne, Imogeela, Cork.
They produced 14 children, among them Thomas, who entered Rochestown Monastery in 1893 and went on to four times being appointed Definitors of the Province of the Capuchins. He was also Chair of Philosphy at the University of Cork. His love for Gaelic culture and interest in sports led him to establishing The Fitzgibbon Cup, awarded annually during inter-University competition amongst GAA sections of Irish universities.
