Bridget Horahan is listed in the Parish Register as being baptized there February 12, 1798.  She later married Michael Broderick.  I would like to know more about these families.  Thanks in advance.

New Information!  Her father was Patrick Horahan and her mother was Bridget Ashley.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Did Bridget marry Michael Broderick in Ireland. No marriage record is available on Roots Ireland. The Agaboe parish register shows a gap for marriages from 1807-November 1816 so possibly the marriage occured in the gap period. No baptismal records for children are available on Roots Ireland.

  • I read somewhere (and lost it) that they were married in Galway, but I'm relying on my memory, and that could be entirely wrong.  The children were all born in Ireland, but I don't know when they emigrated, or from where. I only know they ended up in New York City, where Patrick was a Manhattan policeman.  No more mention of Michael appears, but Bridget died in New York.

In your situation where it appears that church records are not available, I would suggest that you look into autosomal DNA testing. You possibly will have some relatively close matches who might have info on the origins of your Horahan and Broderick families.

This site http://www.swilson.info/sdist.php  shows you where surnames were found in the mid-19th century based on Griffiths Valuation data. Horahan was a somewhat rare surname found in the southeast of Ireland: Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny. Broderick was much more prevalent and found in many counties with Galway, Cork and Kilkenny having the most records.

  • Thank you, Roger.  I have had DNA testing, but so far, nothing has turned up.
