My great-great-great-grandparents are John Dolan, born in about September of 1803, and Catherine Corrigan, born in 1806 in Kings County. Fortunately, Catherine's gravestone inscription in Michigan says "Kings County, Ireland," so that's how we were able to pinpoint County Offaly. Their first child was born in 1829 in Canada. We think John Dolan's parents are Terrance and Ann. We do not know who Catherine Corrigan's parents are. One of their sons, Francis Benjamin Dolan, who was born in 1840 in Michigan, married Catherine O'Leary, who was born in New York in 1844. Catherine's parents are Dennis O'Leary and Margarita Carey. We think Margarita Carey was born in Ireland in about 1824. I would like to learn more about my County Offaly families and meet my relatives.

Hello,
thank you for your message and I will try to help you locally where possible.
My suggestion would be that you contact the Offaly genealogy centre first to see if there are any records for any of the above. If a record could be located, then we would know the parish/townland and I could assist in making the local connection (ancestral homestead, family grave etc.).
The Irish Midlands Ancestry service can be contact here:

Thank you for your suggestion. Just so you know what we've done so far, we went to the National Library in Dublin, and because we had the county they were able to look in books they have and pinpoint the area where there were lots of Dolans, Corrigans, and Careys, which was around Birr. We found many Dolans in the microfilms at the National Library, but since we only had a day or so, we weren't able to narrow any of them down to our line. Then we went to the research centre in Tullamore, but they weren't able to help us with the limited amount of information we had. This was in 2003, so the information wasn't digitized yet. We also went to the library in Birr with no success there either. I will contact Irish Midlands Ancestry and see if they can find anything. Thanks so much for your help. I'm really excited about this project because my main goal in genealogy is to visit the areas where my ancestors came from and to meet my relatives.

Hello again,
the Tullamore centre is the Midlands Ancestry Centre but it is still worth checking again 9 years later if they can find anything as new records will have been added/found in the intervening years I hope. By the way, their service is chargeable - there is a form on the website to fill out and a first search costs ?10. Let's hope something turns up and then I can take it from there.
In the meantime, I will keep a lookout for the names as I visit the Offaly parishes and graveyards - there are many graveyards being digitised all the time but of course, still just a drop in the ocean.
These are the best online record websites - all free of charge:

I checked with the Midlands Ancestry Centre and got the following reply: "I have searched our database of all of the Offaly Records and failed to locate the Baptismal Records of both John Dolan in 1803 and Catherine Corrigan in 1806. The reason being that their baptism pre dates the starting dates of the Baptismal Records, most of which begin in or around 1820. Banagher parish records begin in 1811."
They suggested I try rootsireland.ie, which I will do.
I went through my files and found some more members of my Dolan line, so I'll note them here just in case it will help.
The first generation I have are two brothers, Patrick Dolan and Terrance Dolan. I am a descendent of Terrance/John.
Children of Patrick Dolan and unknown wife:
Thomas, August 15, 1803, Ireland. Died: February 27, 1885, Dexter, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Thomas married Bridget Cloonan on February 7, 1831, in Ireland. She was born in 1808 in Ireland and died between 1880 and 1900 in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Their first child was Patrick, born in Ireland in 1832, and their second child was William, born in 1835 in Dexter, Michigan. His death announcement in the Dexter newspaper says that he was born in King's County, Ireland, and that the family landed in New York in 1833 and came to Michigan in 1835.
Peter, 1804, Ireland. Died: February 11, 1877, Webster, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Peter married Catherine Crogan, who was born in Ireland in 1824. Their first child was born in 1843 in Webster, Michigan.
Ann, 1808, Ireland. Died: May 15, 1880, Dexter, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Ann married Patrick Madden in Ireland. He was born in 1810 in Ireland and died in Pittsfield Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Their first child was Margaret Madden, born in Ireland in 1834. Their second child was James Madden, born in Ireland in 1835. Their third child was Peter Madden, born in Ireland in 1837, died in Dexter, Michigan. Their fourth child was Thomas , born in Ireland in 1839. Their fifth child was Catherine, born in 1841 in Ireland and died in Flint, Michigan. Their sixth child was Patrick Madden, born in 1845 in Ireland, died in New York.
Patrick, 1809, Ireland. Died: March 6, 1889, Whitmore Lake, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Patrick married Bridget Moran in about 1843. She was born in Ireland in January of 1825. Their first child, Michael, was born in 1844 in New York.
Children of Terrance Dolan and Ann (last name unknown):
John Dolan, September 1803, Ireland. Died: April 23, 1894, Putnam Township, Livingston County, Michigan. John married Catherine Corrigan/Carrigan before 1829. She was born in King's County, Ireland, in 1806. Their first child, Terrance, was born in 1829 in Canada.
James Dolan, 1815, Ireland. Died: August 3, 1875, Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan. James married Ann Margaret Larkin in Ireland. She was born in 1818 in Ireland and died in Jackson, Michigan. Their first child, Terrance, was born in Ireland in November of 1842 and died in Jackson, Michigan. Their second child, James, was born in Ireland in 1844 and died in Jackson, Michigan. Their third child, Francis, was born in Ireland in 1846. Their fourth child, Ann, was born in Ireland in 1852. Their fifth child, Margaret, was born in Ireland in 1854 and died in Jackson, Michigan. Their sixth child, John H. Dolan, was born in 1855 or 1857 in Michigan, so they left Ireland between 1854 and 1857. On the 1900 census in Michigan their son, Terrance, says he immigrated in 1854.

This is the marriage record for another of his cousins, Ann Dolan:
