Hello Offaly Group, I'm looking for a Patrick Murphy born in County (King's) Offaly in app. 1828 - 1830. He came to South Amboy, New Jersey in 1863 and Married Margaret Delaney from County (Queen's) Laios in 1864. Patrick's Father's name may have been James? Can anyone help me with this query?

Hello Tim,
thank you for your message and I will try to help you where possible. There are indeed a few challenges with your search:
* Patrick Murphy is a common name in Ireland (as I'm sure you know!)
* There are a few hundred Murphys in Offaly alone - would need the parish to narrow it down
* Do you have any other information about your relative?
My suggestion would be that you contact the Offaly genealogy centre first to see if there are any birth records for a Patrick Murphy born in County (King's) Offaly in app. 1828 - 1830. If this could be located, then we would know the parish/townland and I could assist in making the local connection (ancestral homestead, family grave etc.).
The Irish Midlands Ancestry service could help - contact here:

Hi Delores, according to the Offaly Historical Society, My Murphy's came from Cavemont, Parish of Daingean, Barony of Philipstown. I'm wondering if there are any Murphy's still living in that area after all these years? In a 1896 Death Record from Painesville, Ohio, I found that Patrick had a Brother named James (Born: March of 1812) The will stated that James (Brother Patrick) had a Brother still living in Ireland as he left him some Inheritance money. Unfortunately, the Courts never found his living Brother. Other than this information, I don't have alot to go on!
I do know of a couple of people here in the States who believe that a Patrick Flanagan married a Jane (Jenny)Murphy (Possible sibling to Patrick and James), but we still are having trouble making the connection. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for your time and efforts regarding this matter. Sincerely, Tim Murphy

Hello Tim,
thanks for that information - that certainly makes the search a lot easier. Leave it with me and I will see if local volunteers in the Daingean area can find anything on the ground.
