  • Hi Ann,

The birth records stop at 1920 so I can't get  your dad's birth record (with the names of his parents) yet.

Do you know when and where he married as his parents' names should be on that record.

Ther are lots of Chambers in Kings County where Cloneygowan is in the 1901 and 1911 Census of Ireland so I'm hopeful we will find them if we can get the parents' names.

    Best regards

    Col Cafferky.

  • Hi Col,  my Dad came to england when he was about 16 and he married my Mum when he was 25 in england. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to visit Ireland a few years ago and I went to Tullamore but the offices for births and deaths was just closing but the lovely lady that was there said she would look his name up and send his birth certificate to me, She sent me the large copy with my grandparents names on it, my grandad was William Chambers and my Nan's name was Agnes Chambers and her maiden name was Malone. I think my Dad was the youngest he was born in 1925, my aunties were Marie, Chrissie and Oonagh, They came to england but I don't know when, I do know my Uncle Jim stayed in Ireland. My Dad's name was John but he was always called Jack. Thats just about all I know, I really hope that you can help and that I can make contact with any relatives that I may have there,

                                                         Many thanks

  • Hi Ann,

    Thanks for the extra information.

I'm afraid that in spite of my best efforts I haven't been able to find any more on your Chambers family!

I couldn't find William and Agnes's marriage or Jack, Marie, Chrissie and Oonagh's arrival in England.

I couldn't find any record of Jim in Offaly either.

There are no Chambers in eircom (the Irish phone book) in Offaly to contact; some people have had success by doing a bulk mail-out of their family history details to people with their surname in ireland.

Do you think the Tullamore office you visited might have more information on local Chambers?

I can send all the Chambers births/baptisms from rootsireland in case there is 1 or more you think is relevant if you like (9 pages).

Soory Ann - I looked everywhere!

    Col

  • Hi Col, Bless you!!!  Thank you so much for going to so much trouble for me, it sounds like you tried everywhere!! I will contact the Tullamore Offices and see if they can give me any more info, I would really appreciate the 9 pages that you have, I can't imagine that I will have any luck with them, but there might be a distant cousin amongst them that rings a bell with me LOL. Once again Thank you so very much for all the searching that you did.

                                             Many thanks

                                                  Ann xxxx

  • Thanks for your understanding Ann - it's a hit and miss game this as you well know!

Perhaps one of the Offaly specialists might know more too so you could try to contact one of them on the site.

    Have attached the pages

    Happy hunting!
