Tracing my family who lived in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and worked there too. I believe my great grandfather had a business called Downes' Coach Factory and the family owmed a house in Tullamore who had a butchers shop on the front rented out. I would like to fine out anything at all about my family.
Thank you.

Louise:
I did find these records in the 1901 census I assume your great-grandfather is either Lewis or James.

Hello Louise,
can you provide any further details -- dates, names, time of emigration to where? Also what sources have you already checked -- it helps to avoid duplication. Have you already contacted the Midlands Ancestry Centre in Tullamore?
I have sent your query to the Offaly Historical Society in Tullamore who will hopefully find something on Downes Coach Factory.

Offaly Historical Society's Michael Byrne says he has some information that he'll pass on once he gets back from holiday in mid-August :)

Mary and Ralph Downes are listed in the List of Voters from 1930.

Hi Louise,
I knew the Downes very well in fact was at their grave only last week and I thought how sad that there was nobody left that could keep the grave.
