Reidy's Terrace in 2003
Reidy's Terrace in 2003

Reidy's Terrace was constructed in 1890 and consisted of approx 9 small 2 bedroomed cottages around a central square.

Following a fire which destroyed most of the cottages the terrace was rebuilt in 2000

My grandfather Timothy Flaherty lived in the corner cottage, next to the one with the red door. We loved visiting from England for our holidays as the back wall overlooked the railway shunting yard, now the entranc/exit to Dunnes stores at the top of Rock Street. The railway crossing gates across Rock Street just above Reidy's Terrace entrance allowed the arrival and departure of goods wagons to the Co-oP abbatoir the other side of Rock Street. (See IrelandXOBuilding entry for 2003 photo of old abbattoir.

  • My fraternal grandmother, Catherine Mary Reidy was born on 11/22/1896. She lived on Rock Street, Tralee Urban, Kerry, Ireland. Would anyone have some pictures or history of the Reidy family who built this terrace? I'd love to see family pictures or learn more about them.  Thanks,

  • My great grandfather's first cousin was Timothy "Thady" O'Gorman who was Captain of the 1903 Championship Tralee Mitchells. He married Johanna Reidy in 1905 and lived on Rock Street until his death in 1944.
