The Convent of Mercy was built for the Sisters of Mercy who arrived into Tulla in 1883.  Their purpose was to provide education for the female population in Tulla and to minister to the larger community within the parish.  Their contribution to parish life and particularly to the education of the girls in the parish has been immeasurable.  Their centenary event in 1983 was celebrated throughout the parish.  The Sisters continued to reside in the convent until 2011 when the Head Order donated the building to Ceoltas Ceoltoirí Eireann for use as a Cultural Centre and for the benefit of the greater community.  At present, the building now known as Cnoc na Geithe is used for traditional music, dance and language classes and the renovation of the Oratory is used for Mass and other events.  The facility houses a large collection of photographs and memorabilia from the past.
