This is the old City Hall building in Cork, burned down in 1920 and replaced later by a new building that opened in 1932. The burning of Cork was one of a series of atrocities committed during the War of Independence. It was reported that British forces set fire to several buildings along Patrick Street in the city in December 1920. Carnegie Library were also destroyed. It was said that this act was in revenge for an earlier attack on British soldiers.
