References
WILLIAM COFFEY, born County Down, Ire., Nov. 1842 and his brother GEORGE COFFEY, born Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, May 1850 travelled from Bruce County in Ontario, Canada to Australia, circa 1879. In NSW, Aust., George met and married MARTHA Elizabeth ENGLAND, dau/o John ENGLAND, Paddington.
Both WILLIAM and GEORGE with his wife returned to Canada. where MARTHA died in Bruce County in Aug 1899. QUERY - why did the brothers go to Australia? Did they go to join other COFFEYs who had emigrated there? or to join McNEILLY relatives of their mother, ELIZABETH McNEILLY, dau/o GEORGE McNEILLY?

There are lots of Coffeys in Cranfield, where I live. Try the local www.tracingyourmourneroots.com website. May be of help to you as it covers all the graves and history as to why people left Kilkeel and Mourne.. I also know of McNeillys as well not sure if they were from Kilkeel as well. Best Regards Pamela

Many, many thanks. Re: McNeillys - statement in obituary of Elizabeth (McNeilly) Coffey, death in Sept 1913, is 'born at Mourne, County Down'. I have found a transcription re: baptism of Wm. Coffey from Mourne Presyterian church records. I will be looking at the site you gave me, didn't know about it and I do appreciate your reply. Donna

Hi Donna I had a look through a local history book on the townland of Cranfield and found reference to William Coffey which may be the same one or not around 1830. Not sure if you have this. If you send me your email I will send it through. Thanks Pamela
