It's intriguing that his immigration record states that he is a "native of Newcastle, Co. Limerick" (perhaps he stayed there before embarking), given this is where his future wife Ellen reportedly lived (in the poorhouse) before being deported to Australia about 8 years after Thomas. Thomas Denis O'Sullivan 1817
Back to ListThomas arrived in Australia on the ship Palestine on 6 March 1842. His parent's names were recorded as Dennis and Ellen (deceased). On his shipping record he is noted as "a native of Newcastle, Co. Limerick", a farm labourrer, aged 21, who could read and write. He was Roman Catholic. His age of 21 suggests a birth year of around 1820, but various Australian documents suggest it might be as early as 1817. On most of these documents he records his place of birth as Waterford, and more specifically, Tramore, Waterford.

His 21 years of age put his birth year somewhere around 1820, but other Australian records put it as early as 1817, so he was clearly a devout Roman Catholic.
