Back to ListDouglas Ross Hyde aka Dubhghlas de hÍde aka An Craoibhín Aoibhinn was the 1st President of Ireland (1938 to June 1945). He was also first President of Conradh na Gaeilge (the Gaelic League) and a leading figure in the Gaelic revival.
Born in Co. Roscommon, when his mother was visiting Castlerea, his first home was in Kilmactranny Co. Sligo, until the family moved to Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon.
Hyde was interred at Tibohine Church of Ireland Cemetery, Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon.
