Kate Sullivan sometimes Catherine O’Sullivan was born in Rossfinch 1858.  Her parents were Jeremiah and Mary Carey. They had 14 children.

The other children were John b 31 Jan 1851, Bridget b 6 Apr 1852, Jeremiah b 18 Mar 1853, then Kate, Michael b 3 May 56, Mary b 28 Mar 1858 who married a Mr Troi, Martin b 15 May 1859, Patrick b 1860 died 1933, Sarah b 1862, Cornelius b 2 Mar 1865 and his twin Matthew, Daniel b 30 Jun 1867 and his twin James and finally Thomas b 11 Dec 1870.1885.  

They had one daughter Johanna Maria born 27 Aug 1885 in Mooroopna.  Tragically Kate died after an accident on 10 Oct 1886.  She is buried in the Nagambie Cemetery along with John and her brother Patrick who never married.  Patrick died on 2 Sept. 1933 in Surrey Hills at the home of his sister Kate.

Kate came to Australia on board the “Garonne” with her brother Patrick, arriving in May 1882 the voyage took 90 days. 

Kate married John Dwyer from Boherlahan on 29 Oct 1884 in St Malachy’s RC church Nagambie.  They had one daughter Johanna Maria born 27 Aug 1885 in Mooroopna.  Tragically Kate died on 10 Oct 1886 after an accident.  She is buried in the Nagambie Cemetery along with John and her brother Patrick who never married.  Patrick died on 2 Sept. 1933 in Surrey Hills at the home of his sister Kate.

Her brothers Cornelius and James arrived on board the “Lord Raglan” via Liverpool in 1886.  The rest of the family remained in Ireland

Their journey took 140 days, arriving into Port Phillip Bay.

Cornelius became a butcher and later a farmer in the western district.  He married Annie Mahony about 1895 they had a family of 9 children.  Con. died in 1943 and is buried in the Terang Cemetery, Victoria.

James seems to have disappeared, but it is believed he went to New Zealand.

The remaining family members stayed in Ireland.

  • Rossfinch is a townland in the historical Civil Parish of Kilnarath.  Rossfinch today is in the Roman Catholic parish of Ballinahinch.  The original Sullivan farmstead in Rossfinch was demolished about  12 years ago to allow for construction of a new M7 motorway connecting Limerick to Nenagh.
