This is my grandmother - I would like to know when and why the family left Ireland for Scotland.

I believe Bridget is a member of my family too. I don't know too much about her yet, but if you look at the 1891 Scottish Census, it says her brother Joseph was born in 1883 in Ireland and her sister Anne was born in 1886 in Scotland, so their emmigration must have happened some time between these years.

Thank you for this. I will try to locate the Scottish Census records as i would like to know of other siblings. I thought she had a brother Tom and another brother. I was not aware of an Anne. I would like to know more. Did lots of people emigrate to Scotland in the 1880's? What was life like in Cavan at the time. When I last visited Cavan in 2014 to find where she might have lived, i found that there was an English Barracks nearby.

I live in Australia , having migrated from Scotland in 1950, so I am interested to find any descendants at all.

I'm glad I could offer some help, as I don't actually know a lot about Bridget, her life or the area she came from. I'm right at the beginning of my research into her.

In the 1891 Scottish Census, she was living in Inkerman Rows, Paisley with her Dad, Thomas, and her Mum, Mary. She's listed as 15 rather than 16, likely because she hadn't had her birthday before the census was taken that year, and her occupation is listed as Millworker.

Hello, my name is David McDonald Healy and I am a great grandson of Patrick Leonard, brother of Bridget.

Thomas and Mary had a total of 7 children, Patrick my grandfather had 13 children, one of his daughter's Catherine born 1902 married David McDonald in Paisley in 1925 and my mother was born in 1936. I came along when my mother Catherine married Neal Healy in 1960.

I and a few others have started a Leonard page on Facebook and we now have over 100 family from Paisley, Scotland, Galway Ireland, England, United States, Australia and New Zealand.

It would be great if you would join us and maybe if possible share your Leonard Family information / stories / photos with us.

Unfortunatley I have hit a wall with Thomas Leonard and Mary McGahern (McGaheran) but have a death cerrtificate of Thomas's which informs me that his parents were a Francis Leonard and a Bridget McMasterson, but cannot get any information about them, I really hope you will contact me or join the page but I will respect your privacy if not.
