Researching Honora Walsh, born in Mayderwell, Tralee, Co Kerry on Feb 12 1893.  Her parents were Thomas Walsh and Mary Sullivan who married Mar 5 1816.

Honora "Nora" emigrated to Boston MA USA in 1911 on the Ship Invernia.  She married a Peter Cunningham in 1916 in Boston MA and had six children.  Peter Cunningham, her husband was also from Ireland.

In this picture you will see him in his Irish Uniform in their marriage photo.  Would it be possible to identify the uniform?  He worked on the docks in Boston and therefore would not be wearing a uniform, therefore we expect this uniform was from his Irish days.  Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi.

This handsome couple caught my eye on facebook and then the name of Cunningham further peaked my interest being as my husband had Cuningham ancestors in Massachusetts. But they were in Ma long before this couple. Anyways I still did some looking  on  Peter Cunningham's Declaration of Intention  filed January 1915, and again on their marriage record, his occupation is listed as station fireman, thought perhaps his uniform might be related to that.  Why he moved to the docks who knows. He gave his birth info as Jun 18, 1892  Dundalk, County Louth. And on the ship manifast (Franconia Sept 25, 1912) he did give his father as Peter Cunningham,  Dundalk and came to his brother Michael Cunningham, Boston. His mother was Julie McCann. He died in Boston 1924.

  • Post a copy of the photo on RootsChat accompanied by information about him. RootsChat has posters who are experienced in identifying uniforms. Have you tried enlarging his cap badge? Is it a full-length picture?
