Jeremiah Hayes was born in Feakle County Clare about 1785. He was a tenant farmer who marched with other voters in 1828 to elect Daniel O'Connell to Parliament from Feakle to Ennis. He emigrated with his 3 daughters Honora, Margaret and Ellen and daughter-in-law Catherine and two grandchildren to Fall River, Massachusetts. His wife, Mary Fitzpatrick Hayes had died before he emigrated. The family settled in Fall River and Jeremiah was listed in the censuses as a labourer. He died aged 75 on 30 December 1860 and he is buried in Fall River at North Burial ground. His descendants continue to have an association with this city.
