On the 26th of June, 1887, the temperature was recorded at Kilkenny Castle as 33.3º celsius (that's 92º farenheit for those of you who are so inclined). The weather recording station at Kilkenny Castle only opened the previous year, so this is often regarded as the hottest day in Ireland on record. More can be read about the Kilkenny Castle weather station here. The entire month was hot and dry with only 5mm of rain falling over the course of the entire month.

The weather. It's usually the number one conversation topic in Ireland, particularly when it comes to the extremes. As heatwaves are becoming a more common occurrence in Ireland, it is interesting to note that this obsession with the weather (especially good weather) isn't a new trend.
