Hello Vince,
My 2X great-grandfather, Edmund Fitzgerald was baptized in Castlemaine Parish, County Kerry on 17 June 1846. The address is listed as Aughbue. I found this record on IrishGenealogy.ie. His parents were Edmund Fitzgerald and Mary Harranghten. Rev T. Carmody was the priest.
Research at the Tralee Library (with the help of their genealogist) resulted in the probability that Edmurd Fitzgerald, was born in Ballygamboon Upper, County Kerry, near the Abboy Bridge.
The only Fitzgerald I could find in Griffith's Valuation was Garrett in Ballygamboon Upper. Just below Ballygamboon Upper is Ballynamona Lower and Rev. Thomas Carmody is living there!
This leaves me wondering if my Edmund and Mary Harrington Fitzgerald could have been living there with either a father or brother named Garrett.
My uncle, James Patrick Fitzgerald had his Y-DNA tested at FTDNA at my request and two of his matches Listed their earliest known ancestor as Garrett/Gerald Fitzgerald. My grandfather was Gerald Fitzgerald.
I would welcome more information about your own family history. Do you live in Ireland?
Warm regards,
Debby in Missouri, USA
