Patrick Crampton Harran was born in Ireland at Killycreen, Blacklion, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, on 4 January 1856, and was baptised into the Catholic Church two days later. His father, Hugh Harran, was the humble farmer, and his mother was Bridgit Harran, born Dolan. The sponsors at his baptism were Owen Harran and Catherine Egon.
He emigrated to the Cape Colony circa 1881 and later joined the Forestry Department. He died at Keiskammahoek in 1936.
