John Martin was born in County Meath in 1826. His father was Thomas Martin, and his mother’s maiden name was Duffy. He married Hanorah (called Honora, Hanna, or Nora) Ryan. She was born in New York in 1839 and died in 1889. They settled in Minnesota, but lived in Indiana for a while, where they were married.
