  • Hi:

There is a Patrick Hogan baptised on 2 May 1828 to Michael Hogan and Bridget Meer at Derrygarriv in Tulla.  Do you think that this is the same person?  Do you have a parent's name?

Let us know and we can assist you with narrowing down your search.

    All the best,

  • Jane, Thank you for looking for this information, I don't know the name of my ancestor Patrick Hogan's parents, I only know from his tombstone that he was born in the parish of Tulla Co Clare. I have calculated his birth date to be 1824 from the date of death and his age also listed on tombstone. I don't believe they would have baptized him 4 years after his birth, but it could be a miscalculation or misinterpetation of his marker ( it is very difficult to read) but I do believe from other documents that he was born in 1824. I did find in the same cemetery, Mary McNamara born in 1815 also from Tulla, (on her tombstone) Then I found her maiden name was Hogan, & recently I have matched with her descendants through DNA, so I believe her to be the sister of my Patrick. My Patrick had only one son named James (so his father may have been James??) & many daughters, but none Bridget.

Right across from the tombstone of my Patrick there is another tombstone of another Patrick Hogan on his marker it says he was born in Bodyke, Co Clare, & I believe it says he died 11 Aug 1871 age 42yrs. I have always thought they were somehow related because of their proximity in the graveyard, & it is such a small community/church, especially in the 1870's. and because Bodyke doesn't look to be that far from Tulla. at any rate That Patrick Hogan would probably be closer to the right age for a baptism in 1828.

Thank You again for your time any clues are greatly appreciated. Best regards, Kate

  • Hi to you Kate and Jane

In my family tree I have Mary Hogan (my 2nd Great Grand-mother).

    B:1811 Ireland

D:05 Feb 1893 Dangan, Co Clare, Ireland aged 83 years

She was married to Michael Foran (1807–1884)

I see my Mary can not be the sister of your Patrick as she married a McNamara - they are in a very similar area and timeframe, I wondered what sites you had done the dna match on as I have completed my dna on Ancestry and 23&me - if I could like to your profile I could see if there is a distant match? My profile on ancestry is anna1966 and my email is anna@godfreydadich.com if that is okay to share and ask.

Here is a shareable link to my ancestry tree. I know it only works for the first person to click on it - so if you could click on it Katesmary. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/pt/RSVP.aspx?dat=MTEyOTMxMDE4OzswNDAxOTM5Mi0wMDA2LTAwMDAtMDAwMC0wMDAwMDAwMDAwMDA7MjAyMTA3MDQwMjUyMzc7MQ==&mac=aodW4VW2ISUefe5uCiUH/Q==

    All the best for now,
