Bailiúchán na Scol aka The Schools’ Collection (initiated by the Irish Folklore Commission) enlisted more than 5,000 schools in the 26 counties of the Irish Free State to collect folklore in their home districts between 1937 and 1939. The children interviewed their elderly neighbours, grandparents and parents to collect their oral history, topographical information, folktales & legends, riddles & proverbs, games & pastimes, trades & crafts.

Here you will find the names of teachers and pupils attending the local National School in the 1930s along with (more importantly) the names and townland addresses of old-timers in the locality (many of them famine survivors) and a who's-who of characters and long-forgotten places in the stories they shared.
