Croppy's Acre aka Croppies' Hole (near Collins Barracks, formerly the Royal Barracks) was supposedly a mass grave for Irish rebels who died in the 1798 Rebellion. Known as Croppies (due to their short-cropped hair) some rebels' bodies were also exhibited here tied to pikes. It was also believed that, after 1798, veterans of the conflict, such as Matthew Tone (brother of Wolfe Tone) and Bartholomew Teeling were buried here. But no graves have been found. Croppies Acre is now a Memorial Park.
