The 1951 All Ireland Senior Gaelic Football Final took place in Croke Park on the 23rd of September.
It was played between Mayo and Meath with Mayo winning 2-8 to 0-9, making it Mayo's second title in a row.
This is the match from which the tales of the infamous Mayo curse originated. For those unfamiliar with the Mayo curse, have a look at the story as told by one of the players who was there on the day
Whether or not you believe in the Mayo curse, the fact remains that Mayo have failed to secure the All Ireland title ever since. They wouldn't reach the final again until 1989, and from then they saw a run of terrible luck as replays and own goals kept them in second place on another 8 occasions.
