Thomas was one of many from Tulla who entered Ellis Island in search of new opportunities. He was the son of James McCormack of Tulla. His sister Eliza was born in 1876.
By all accounts Thomas was a successful, well respected man. The St. Louis Dispatch reported on his marriage in 1899 to Miss O'Donovan of 4416 Lindell Blvd at the home of W.H. Kent of Jefferson Ave St. Louis. The paper reported that only a few friends of the couple had been invited to witness the ceremony.
Thomas was also reported to have been a great athlete and member of the police. At the beginning of the war with Spain he had entered the First Missouri Regiment and assigned to Company 1. Once discharged he worked for a time in a street car company after which time he passed the examinations for the St. Louis Police Department, rising to sergeant in the 5th District.
Thomas died aged 49 after serving 26 years on the force. His death was reported in 1926 and he was recorded as the loving husband of Katie and father of Mary, Katherine, Helen, Arline, Lucille, Alice and Thomas. His obituary also reported that he was the brother of Mrs John Green and Mrs Dennis O'Donnell of Ireland. His funeral took place in the Blessed Sacrament Church and his burial in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis.
