Edmond Edward Edmund O'Brien was born abt 1845 in Ireland in County Kerry, to parents, Thomas O'Brien and Nellie Fitzgerald. Edward and Thomas were both farmers. Edward had immigrated to New Zealand by 1875 where he died in Christchurch, NZ, in 1922.
The only records I can find of any parents in Ireland, named Thomas O'Brien and Nellie Fitzgerald, is in Mitchelstown, Cork when they had Mary Brien b 1833, Ellen Brien b. 1835, and Catherine Brien b.1836. This may be our Edward's parents and sisters or not. It was another 10 years before our Edward was born.
NZ family folklore also tells of Edward having a brother Michael who drown in the 1870s in New Zealand.
