Back to ListMichael McDermott was born circa 1820-1825 in Ireland. His parents were Bernard McDermott and Rose Murtha. He married Rose Connelly in Ireland before 1862, when their son Patrick was born. They left Ireland after Patrick was born and settled in Salem, NY. They had three more children: Mary, Bernard and Michael. Michael Sr. died 26 April 1895 in Salem, NY.
Michael's death certificate said he was born in Killcross. I think perhaps he lived at County Cavan, Shercock Parish, Killcrossduff Townland because in Griffiths Valuation there was a Michael McDermott in 1862 and then he was gone. There was also a John Murtha there.
Michael's mother was Rose Murtha. His brother was Patrick McDermott, born circa 1829 in Ireland. Patrick was in Salem, NY in 1860. Mother Rose lived with him in 1865. In 1870 Patrick was in Jackson, NY. Rose died in Jackson in 1878, buried in Salem
