Robert was the son of Robert and Mary Anne (McDermott) Noble.
Robert left Enniskillen for Glasgow about 1906, where he joined Anchor Line Steamship Company as a ship's steward. He moved to the Panama Canal Steamship and Railroad Company in late 1910 and began sailing between New York City and the Canal Zone. About 1917 he sailed the Pacific, including ports of call in South America and Australia.
Robert married Kathryn Lucilla Carr on 7 Jun 1918. She was the daughter of George Nelson and Mary Barnet (Morgan) Carr of Pennsylvania, USA.
Robert and Kathryn had five children: Kathryn Carr Noble (b Baltimore, Maryland, USA), Robert James Noble (b Baltimore, Maryland, USA), George Patrick Noble (b Norfolk, Virginia, USA), John Carroll Noble (b Henderson, North Carolina, USA) and Mary Charlotte Noble (b Norfolk, Virginia, USA).
After he married, Robert worked as a chef at the Mount Holly Inn in Baltimore, the Monticello Hotel in Norfolk, and the Kentucky Home in Hendersonville, where Jack Dempsey held his training camp at nearby Laurel Park Estates before a heavyweight championship bout.
Robert and Kathryn are buried in Norfolk.
