James Tobin was born (probably) in June, July or August 1835, and when he died in August 1894 in Bangalore, India, his place of birth was given as Cahir. There is an online record of his Attestation in the British Army in January 1853, at the Clonmel Barracks, in which he claims to be 17 and a half. We don't have any other confirmation of his connection with Tipperary, apart from my uncle's assertion that he thought that the Tobin family came from Clonmel.
