According to US Census records, Michael Shea (1835-1903) was born in Ireland on September 29, 1835, and immigrated to the USA in 1863. He lived and worked as a furnace man and laborer in the mills of Stafford Springs, Connecticut. On the tombstone of his first wife, Bridget Mack (1836/38-1874), an inscription reads that she was a native of Gleninchaquin, Kenmare, County Kerry. They had five children: Patrick (1863-1928), Michael, Kathryn, Elizabeth, and Jeremiah.
After Bridget died on May 12,1874, Michael married Mary E. McSweeney Hanlon (1845-1922) on May 13,1876. Mary was born in Ireland on August 1,1845. She had a son, John Hanlon, who was born in Massachusetts. They had three more children: Johanna, Margaret, and James.
Michael died on November 8, 1903. His birth and death dates were found on his death certificate in town records of Stafford, Connecticut, USA, along with names of Michael's Irish parents: Michael and Johannah O'Shea.
