Hello, I am a Sheehy of Duagh parish researcher in Australia. I am a descendent of Roger Sheehy and Catherine Graney who moved out to Sydney with their family (from Scrahan townland) in th elate 1840s. I would be very interested to find out more about these Patrick Graneys. Catherine's father is listed as Patrick but we have no other information.

It is possible that your Patrick Graney was related to my Patrick Graneys' but I think they are different people. My Great Grandfather was married 8 Sep 1881 in Georgetown, South Australia. His marriage record shows his age as 24 and his father as Patrick Graney. Based on the age on his marriage record he was born in 1857, that is well after the time when you belive Catherine moved to Sydney. It is possible that Catherine and my Great Great Grandfather Patrick are siblings. Over the years I have been unable to find a record of my Great-Granfather's arrival in South Australia so possibly he migrated to Sydney and subsequently moved to South Australia. However a search of passenger lists for ships travelling to Sydney for a record of my Patrick Graney and your Roger and Catherine Sheedy has not resulted in a matching record.
The baptism record for Patrick Graney in Duagh RC Parish, Co. Kerry on April 6 1850 is 7 years earlier than the age on the marriage record so this may be a different person.
I am sorry I am not able to provide more help.

If only we had their letters. I strongly suspect this as a good lead BTW, I am very interested. The three brothers Sheehy migrated over a 20 year period and brought (likely) cousins with them (see below). So the timeframe is not as stretched out as one may think.

It is Patrick Joseph Sheey's baptismal record that allowed me to work out which townland they originated from in Duagh.
Roger & Catherine & family also came out with a Catherine Coffey (in his guardianshp, even though she was older than both of them). She married and left the colony from what became Victoria for the Californian goldfields are couple of years before Victoria became a goldfield... I mention Catherine Coffey because of a strong DNA connection with a descendent of one of the first Victorian cross recipients, whose name is William Coffey, and we can work out no papertrail at all... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Coffey_(VC) and not currently working at http://www.williamcoffeyvc.org/
So please watch for that name Coffey/Coffee, I have always strongly suspected the Coffey connection is a distaff cousin on the Graney side of things.
A Bob Sheehy in the US also has some DNA connecion with us but his Sheehys are from Shanagolden, however he was told (by folk in Shanagolden) they had major connections with Dillons from Duagh. It was all a bit cryptic. We have not worked out any papertrail.
On monaropioneers you will also note that Catherine Graney's parents are listed as Patrick and Ellen (Léan?)) (on old notes there is the sometimes added "Larchfield" which is always in scare quotes and no one knows what it means, in Irish this is Gort no Learoige (which might be refering to a townland? Near Cork city???)
