Mary Millane was born in 1834 to Michael Millane and Mary Lynch near Cloontra, Co. Clare. She was their first child, and her siblings were John, Michael, Patrick, Thomas, and Ellen. Mrs. Millane and her 6 children arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA on 31 May 1853. It is not known whether Mary's father Michael had emigrated earlier, or possibly died on the voyage. Mary married Florence McCarthy on 9 Apr 1855 at Newry in Blair Co., Pennsylvania. They had 8 children of whom 2 died very young. The 6 surviving children were: Mary Elizabeth, Catherine Anastasia, Callaghan John, Charles Peter, Anna, and Ellen, all of whom were born in Huntingdon Co. except the last in Clearfield Co. Mary Millane McCarthy died 4 Jul 1875 at Brisbin in Clearfield Co.
Mary's siblings spelled their surname as "Millan" after arriving in Pennsylvania.
