Martin Leydon (b1887) was the youngest son of Patrick Leydon (1850) & Margaret Monaghan (c1851) of Sileshaun (aka Soyleshaune). Bridget Fitzgibbon of Drumcarna Mauricemills was present at his birth (informant).
Patrick Leydon & Margaret Monaghan (m. 21/2/1873) spoke both Irish and English. This family appears in the 1901 Census of Sileshaun. Ten years later, in the Census of 1911, this couple stated that they were 38 years married (c1873) and had had 6 children (still living, spoke English only). Martin was no longer at home. His father, Patrick Leydon was the son of Michael Leydon of Sileshaun, farmer (fl.1873) who appears in Griffiths Valuation of 1855.
The other Leydon family in this townland in 1901 was Patrick Leydon & Susan Cotter (m. 1889). He was the son of Connor & Norah Leydon of Sileshaun. In 1901 his widowed mother Norah (age 80) was living with them. A year later they baptised a son Martin Leyden as well. By 1911 both Norah and this Patrick has passed leaving Susan widowed with a young family.
- Martin was a special family name passed on by both line of Leydons in Sileshaun.
