My 3 x great grandmother, Jane Malcomson immigrated to Australia as part of the Earl Grey Irish Orphans Scheme from 1848-1850. She arrived in Sydney 4 April 1859 on the ship Digby which had departed Plymouth on 16 December 1848. The immigration record states that she was 17 years old, Church of England, could not read or write, parents were both dead and she came from Drumlane Co. Cavan.
She married Thomas Joseph Turner as Jane Makisson in August 1849 in Dapto NSW and I understand they had nine children including my 2 x great grandmother Frances Ann Elizabeth Turner. After Thomas' death in 1876 she remarried a John Pye.
Jane died in Wellington NSW in 1908.
The Irish Orphans Memorial in Sydney includes a database which includes Jane. This includes the parents names of Nathaniel Malcolmson and Nancy. I have also seen information that her mother's name may have been Ann Nancy Crawford but I have not confirmed this.
I would like to confirm Jane's name, that of of her parents and where they came from, with townland if at all possible.
I would also like to know if Jane was in a workhouse as this is reported as the source of many of the orphan girls on the Earl Grey Scheme.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
