John Connor was born in Killermogh Civil Parish (Aghaboe Catholic Parish) in Laois County April 25, 1842. While we have not confirmed his parents names, we suspect that it could be Michael Connor and Mary Delaney of Cullacura or John Connor and Betty Dempsey of Kilbride, Laois in Leah civil Parish (Portarlington Catholic). Family lore says hisparents were John Connor and Ellen Barney but I have found no evidence to support that. John married Bridget McClellan (Daughter or Thomas McClellan and Mary Rourke) in 1862 in Rahen, Meath Parish in county Offaly. They immigrated to the United States in 1863. Their daughter Mary was born in Pennsylvania shortly after their arrival in August 1863. Their son, John Patrick (my g grandfather), was born in Champaign County, Illinois on March 17, 1867. They went on to have another son and 3 daughters. All born in Champaign County, Illinois. Their names were Joseph Francis, Alice, Ellen and Catherine. Interesting that John, Alice and Ellen all married Brophy siblings. John to Nellie Brophy, Alice to Patrick Brophy and Ellen to John Brophy. The Brophy’s parents were John Michael Brophy And Mary Ryan. It is supected the two families were distant relatives or friends in Ireland.
