On the 3rd of December 1990, Mary Robinson was inaugurated as the 7th President of the Irish Republic. 

The ceremony took place in Dublin Castle where she gave a rousing speech, sparking hope in the hearts of many. 

President Robinson represented a number of firsts for Irish politics, not only was she the first female president, but she was also the first to not have been a member of Fianna Fáil.
