Mary Flannagan Burke, (my 3rd Great Grandmother) was born about 1796 in Birr, Coutnty Offaly,). She married "unknown" Burke (possibly Thomas) & had at least two children, Kearnen Burke (possibly spelled Keiran) and Edward Burke who also emigrated to America from King's County (Offaly) Ireland.

It is likely that Mary emigrated to the North Bend Ohio area because a relative (a member of the Flannagan family), had settled there earlier (my theory). A Mary Burke from Birr, County Offaly emigrated to New York on board the "Famine Ship" St. George arriving on August 3, 1846. Mary was traveling with 20 year old Edward Burke. Also on board the St. George was a John Flanagan age 20, Mary's next-door neighbor on Pound Street in Birr.

In 1860 Mary Flannagan Burke lived in Covington Kentucky just across the Ohio river from Cincinnati. Her first grandson, Daniel Stephen Burke was born in Covington in 1854 so it's likely that she lived there with or near her son Kearnen E. Burke (Daniel's father). At some point Kearnen moved to North Bend Ohio but there is no record of Mary moving with him, although there is an entry for a Mary Burke in the 1870 Census of Cincinnati Ohio's 13th Ward (it is not clear if this is Mary Flannagan Burke or some other Mary Burke).  Mary Flannagan Burke died on March 15, 1877, in Miami Township, Ohio, at the age of 81.

When I visited Ireland in 2014 I took a photo of a cottage which now sits, on Pound St. in Birr, Offaly.  I believe that it may be located in the same place where Mary Burke's cottage was located and listed in Griffith's Valuation.  I have no photo of Mary Flannagan Burke, but I took a photo of the cottage where I think she may have lived in the early 1800s.
