FREDERICK WILLIAM KINCH: My Grandfather 

Born 15 July 1864 in Rathdowney, Co Laois (Queens as it was then ) arrived in Sydney NSW on 16 June 1883 aged 18 years with his sister, Sarah Amelia (1) He could read & write, religion given as Church of England, occupation given as carpenter. Again Emma Grace Armstrong (nee Kinch), his aunt was responsible for his coming as an Assisted Immigrant to Australia. 

Frederick worked very hard as a carpenter & later housebuilder, spending many months away from his wife & family sourcing timber for building in & around Young NSW (also known as Lambing Flat then) 

On 2 December 1885 he married LAVINIA JESSIE ADELAIDE BROWN, in Young NSW. She was born in Young NSW on 12 April 1867 & died in Young NSW 19 September 1939.
She was the daughter of Michael Anthony Brown 23 August 1828- 21 March 1902 & Mercy Augusta Glazier 18 April 1843 - 17 October 1914 . 

She was also the granddaughter of Anthony Brown born 22 February 1805 who had been transported to Australia as a convict being found in possession of his commanding officer’s uniform on his way to see his wife & new born son in Dublin. He was to accompany Sir Thomas Mitchell, Surveyor General of NSW and explorer on all his expeditions throughout Australia from1831 to 1847 

Frederick & Lavinia had 10 children all born in Young NSW 

1) Alfred Michael born 26 November 1887 & died 21 August 1954 he married Esther Lavender & they 10 children 

2). Mercy Emma born 18 August 1888 & died 14 July 1986 she married Harold Mould & had 1 child 

3) Georgina born 18 June 1891 & died 20 March 1975 

4).  Herbert John born 21 March 1895 & died 22 April         1960 he married Jessie Fanning & they had 5 children
5).  Henry James born 27 March 1897 & died 17 April             1959
6).  Albert Edward born 28 December 1899 & died 25 November 1970
7).  Lavinia Margaret (my mother) born 3 July 1902 & died 8 May 1952
she married Frank Norman Lewis ( born 12 February 1889 & died 30 October 1962) in Young 17 March 1927 & they had 2 children, Maurice Norman Lewis (28 December 1927 & died 23 May 2021) he married Shirley Osborne & they had 2 daughters & 2 granddaughters & Juline Margaret Lewis born 26 September 1937 married Desmond George Long (1926-1985) in New Zealand & has a son, a granddaughter & 3 great-grandchildren
8).  Frederick William born 1 September 1904 & died 24 April 1981 He married Gwenneth Hodges & had 5 children
9).  Frank Vanston born 27 October 1907 & died 4 June 1981 He married Stella Barnes & had 2 children

10). Stella Jean born 1 January 1910 & died 22 February 1910 

Frederick William Kinch was a well known & respected orchardist, growing cherries (Young is the “capital” of cherry growing in Australia) & other fruit on his property called “Carthona” where he lived for 44 years until his death. Prior to that he was a successful building contractor in the Young District. All his children were christened in the Church of England in Young & he was involved in many areas of the community of the Young District 

At his death he had 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. 

A son of Ireland, his country can be very proud of him.
